Issue to Impact

It all started when…

we realized that it is not possible nor is it effective to incorporate one rigid model of mental health education and care. Therefore, we are proud to state that all of our programming is based upon extensive research and data collection. At MINDS we understand the unique nature and diversity throughout the communities in India. A needs assessment is at the foundation of our program design process. Continuing monitoring and evaluation of our programs once they are implemented is essential to improving and providing communities what they truly need.

Why do we conduct research?

Mental health should be a global health priority as it is not only important in its own right, but it is linked to the outcomes for other public health goals such as Millennium Development Goals (Prince et al., 2007). In order to advance any sort of health priority, research must be done to understand the root cause of problems, the consequences of these problems and how to effectively reduce them. Research provides the background for the creation of relevant policy and the establishment of healthcare delivery models (e.g. health worker programs). Additionally, research is essential for acquiring financial backing from both the public and private sectors. Lastly, research provides an outlet for sharing the results of the important work done by The MINDS Foundation and our partners.

Research Highlight

As part of our internship program, a student named Mithil Gada recently authored and published an article titled “Understanding the Prevalence of Alcohol Use Disorder in Gujarat: A Narrative Review” alongside our team. The article has been successfully published in the International Journal of Current Science and will lead to more meaningful research and programming. Please click on the links above to learn more!
